One Year Anniversary

On Sunday we celebrated our first wedding anniversary. It is amazing to think how quickly the last year has flown by, what we have managed to achieve and how different our life is 12 months down the track. It also bought back many fond memories of our special day with our family and friends.

In keeping with the first anniversary tradition of paper, so we decided on another first, our first Broadway show. We got tickets, aka the paper, and went to see Chicago!

We started the night offf with some champagne and wine.......

followed by some great french food with creme brulee for dessert....

........going ....going......

gone!

Feeling very full we decided to make the most of the sunshine and walk over to Times Square. What is it with our wedding date and heat waves!?!?! New York enjoyed an unseasonal 90F/30C heat wave this weekend, but luckily I did not break out in a heat rash as per last year! We made it to the theatre just in time to enjoy the performance!

Celebrity Sighting

Friday night we headed to a local sushi restaurant, with great hand made fresh sushi rolls, but we did long for our australian style sushi train!
On the way home the streets around Central Station were closed off and lined with trailers. Next thing Nicolas Cage, looking very disheveled walks around the corner with a slew of fans following! It was very funny except poor David missed the entire episode, however judging by his last film box office flop he didn't miss much!

Graham's Last Supper

Last night was Grahams last night in New York :(
We headed over to his place after work and enjoy all the goodies he had spent the day collecting. It was an evening of some nibbles and wine, whilst the rain poured down and we were all thankful we were inside!

good grief more wine!

Needless to say we sent Graham off with a big bang! However we all felt slightly slow today, especially Graham who missed his flight!

More fun with Graham

On Saturday night Graham, David and I headed out for a fancy dinner at Convivio. It was recently named one of the best new restaurants in New York, and is located just around the corner from us. It made for a great evening with pre-dinner drinks at Chez Curtis, fabulous italian food with magnificant wines and of course more fun and shenaigians with Graham!!

happy as clams!!

Renee's Visit

What a treat that Renee made a quick visit to her parents over the Easter break, and made some time to pop into town to see us! She was the first to officially see our new place, my new work and meet my new friend Bridget.

It was amazing to see one of my dearest friends, especially given my first visit to New York was with Renee.

And seeing the weather was so lovely, we decided to celebrate with an ultra quick ride through the city on the back of a tuk tuk - new york style.

keep cycling - there's a tip in it for you!

.....and still in one piece!

Graham in Town!

Yesterday our good friend Graham arrived in New York, it was so wonderful to see a friendly and familiar face!! Graham has been traveling the globe for the last month and New York will be one of his final stops before heading home.
Last night we took full advantage of one of the 'downturn deals' and enjoyed some half price martini's at Trump Tower, and then headed over to the uber cool asian fusion restaurant Tao to meet David for dinner. Needless to say we were feeling quite liquid by the end of the night!

The food was fabulous and I highly recommend the experience!

Alex's New Job

This week I started my new job with the fabulous luxury brand, LVMH aka Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy, specifically working with DeBeers Diamonds & Jewelry.

Everyone is very nice and I am having a wonderful time and enjoying myself so far. One of the perks is having the fridge stocked with Verve Clicquot - as you can imagine - right up my alley!

Happy Easter

This Easter we started the day with a service at St Bartholews on Park Ave.
It was a lovely service, complete with 2 choirs and its own orchestra. It was absolutely packed with well over 2,000 people in attendence - literally almost not enough room at the inn :)

Entrance to the church....

The dome at the front of the church

Afterwards we met with with Jay and Erica who we officially given the celebrity nickname of 'Jerica' as well as Mary and her frends for Sunday brunch.

We went to Onieal's in Soho which is most famously known as 'Aidan & Steve's Bar' from Sex in the City. We all channelled our inner Carrie and enjoyed cocktails whilst celebrating the lovely spring weather - and the fact it had stopped snowing!

Dinner with Bridget

On Saturday night we hit the well known Turkish restaurant Ali Baba, for some good eating, with my new friend Bridget. Bridget and I met at GDS and have become fast friends, despite both of us quitting and finding other jobs - ha ha!
Bridget is a complete joy to spend time with and oddly we are both vegetarians and a week apart in age. She moved from Ohio to New York about 2 years ago and has been a great support during all the choas and drama involved in our move. Plus she has a great knowledge of everything from the best dry cleaners to wine bars - love it!

Dinner with Mary

On Sunday night we caught up with David's family friend from Houston, Mary who is in fact Candy's god-daughter. Being quite the sport she took us to 8 Mile Creek and well known Australian beer garden in SoHo.
They have a completely Australian menu, serving Kangaroo carpaccio, beer battered fish'n'chips, burgers, meat pies, pasties and of course lamingtons and pavlova for dessert. Plus they are one of the only places in the USA where you can get Coopers and Toohey's! We were happy as clams!

Mary taking on the meat pie, gravy and mash challenge!

A veggie burger complete with a slice of beetroot and a fried egg!

David enjoying a much missed Australian beef burger!

Funny Moving Moment

On Saturday afternoon, before heading out to dinner, we realized we didn't have a few of the much need staples to get thought the night, like pillows!

We made a mad rush to Century 21 a downtown department store to grab a few things. With everything in one place, we grabbed trolley and started collecting things not completely realizing that we didn't have a car and at some point we would have to carry all our purchases. On our merry - and slightly dillusional way - we bought everything from chopping boards, knives, pillows, sheets, duvets, cutlery, a dinnerware set, pots, pans, electric can opener, drying rack - everything!

6 enormus bags later, we are standing on the street unable to get to taxi. Cold, frustrated and now running late I did the only thing a respectable NYC lady would do - called a limo! I managed to negotiated the rate down to only $20 - not for nothing a taxi would have been $18 - and we were on our way.

We felt very Carrie and Big being driven through the city at sunset - amongst all our shopping!

Lets Celebrate!

After all the excitement of moving we headed out on Saturday night to celebrate with Jay and Erica. We hit a super cool Italian restaurant in Greenwich Village and had some serious good food and fabulous wine! In fact, we wine we enjoyed was from Antinori wineries in Tuscany, and was one of the wineries we visited on our honeymoon :)

Moving Day!

Saturday finally arrived and the move was under way! After some initial fun playing on the motorized ramp on our rental van.......................

................we packed everything up.........................

.....................said our good bye's..............

...................got behind the wheel..................

.....................and headed to New York City!

Driving through NYC was stressful to say the least but everything arrived in one piece and we finally at our new home. Our new apartment number is 26A - which is odd seeing we got married on April 26 - and almost about to celebrate one year!
It is looking a little bare, but its nice to have our own home finally!

Getting ready to move

After 5 months of living out of suitcases we are finally packing our bags for the last time!

However it appears we have accumulated lots of stuff during our travels, some for the house and some not! It has been a busy week of shopping and organising to make sure we are well equipped, but keeping in mind we still have all our stuff in Sydney coming as well! Argh!

Despite all this - we are sooo looking forward to making New York our new home!

What a mess!

The boys helping with the move......at least the bed is made!
