Farewell to Farrah

Friday night we had a farewell dinner and drinks for Farah who is heading back to the UK.

But she will be back in the US soon enough after securing a job and visa in LA before the end of 2010! We started the night with some champagne at Chez Curtis with Jill, Farah, Victoria and Christine.

It was then onto dinner at Sushi Samba. It was a lovely ladies night out and great way to complete Farah's NYC experience!














Is it just me or is there an animal safari theme going on?

Conched Out

After the excitement of the night before we were a little "conched" out ...... so why not roll it in batter and deep fry it?

I cannot tell you the joy of conch balls washed down with local Bahamian Kalik beer after a long night - bliss!

Peter & Cam - Round 2

One of the best thing about our trip to the Bahamas was catching up with Peter and Cam!

They were staying with Peter's aunt, Donna so we were able to squeeze in some more fun before they flew back to Sydney.

We enjoyed a fantastic meal at the Old Fort Bay Club..............

Then it was back to the house for more drinks and dancing.............

What a gorgeous bunch!

David and Cam had the right idea switching out the booze for water ...........

.....and Donna very kindly made us fried eggs in the wee hours of the morning!

Bahamas

Last week we headed to the Bahamas for one last hurray before the summer was over.















It was the perfect way to escape and relax.






























We had a great time exploring the resort and splashing around in the water!

Gansevoort & Buddakan

Sundy night we got all dressed up and headed out to our favorite rooftop bar at the Gansevoort.

Unfortunately the weather was not behaving itself, literally raining on our parade.
















Nonetheless the less we enjoyed some cocktails before heading to Buddakan for dinner.
















We had such a fabulous meal with lobster rolls, pureed edaname dumplings, crispy calamari, mushroom chow fun ( "love chow love fun "), tofu and pork - yum yum yum!

Peter & Cam

This weekend we celebrated the arrival of Peter and Cam from Oz.

It was straight down to SoHo for shopping and shenanigans! After several purchases, we stopped at SoHo Park for a late lunch, just as it started to rain - perfect timing!

Seemingly we can't seem to escape the Australian Ugg!

BBQ, Backyard and Burgers

On Sunday Farah joined us for some afternoon fun.

The weather was so nice nice out we spent the majority of the afternoon in our backyard with some champagne, soaking in the sun and enjoying the breeze

















Having an outdoor space is a such the luxury in New York, add a handsome hubby with a BBQ and you're in heaven!

As Farrah's visit to New York is coming to a close, we thought one more round of burgers was hardly going to hurt :)

Super Duper Weenie

After a weekend full of indulgence, we sadly made our way back to NYC :(

Along the way we drove along the scenic coastline stopping in the cute seaside town of Mystic CT, a sea port town complete with vintage boats and candle making!

It was then onto the infamous "Super Duper Weenie", know for its fresh variety of hotdogs, which David had seen on Diners Drive-Ins and Drives on the Food Network.















We used this opportunity to get our weenier on and it did not disappoint - yum!

Lobster Madness

After collecting four fresh lobsters and two dozen oysters we all got to work preparing dinner.

Zena massaged the lobsters into a coma before blanching them in boiling water........















Jeff removed each lobster and cut accordingly....















Alex and David prepped the corn, bought fresh from the farmers market....















And Susie was on lobster security!




















We then brushed the cut lobster in butter and placed on the BBQ for 10mins to complete the cooking, before brushing with more butter!















Ta-da! Oysters, lobster and corn oh my!

Fish Market

After a day relaxing by the lake it was back to the fish market at Naragansett to collect some fresh seafood for our Sunday dinner.
















We are going to eat you later, little lobster!















With all the excitement we grabbed an early dessert!

Champlins

Saturday night we headed to a local restaurant set on the Marina called Champlins.

Rhode Island is famous for seafood...lobster, clams, oysters......and all super cheap!

















With price on my side, I indulged in an entire lobster for $15!
















The boys shared the seafood platter full of clams, scallops, oysters, shrimp, fries - couples eating!

Rhode Island

Friday afternoon we packed our bags and headed to Rhode Island for a long weekend. We stayed with the Fisher's who recently relocated there from Colorado, Jeff & David are old college friends.
















Saturday we set off out and about Newport, home to many of the opulent estates on the waterfront. We visited the Breakers, the summer home for the Vanderbilt's built during the gilded age.

















On the year of its completion, The Breakers was the largest, most opulent house in a summer resort town that was considered to be the social capital of America.

As you can imagine it was quite the sight!

It was then onto the Marble House, and is said to be inspired by the Petit Trianon at Versailles in France.

The entire estate is made of over 500,000 cubic feet (14,000 m³) of different shades and types of marble.















It was also the sight where Alva Vanderbilt hosted rallies for women's sufferage on the lawn.
