Day in Park Slope

Saturday morning we got up and headed out for a day in Brooklyn. We caught the sub way over to Park Slope, one of the nicer areas filled with tree lined streets, old brownstones, cute cafes and designer digs. We had a great time wandering around before tucking into some German food for lunch.

Afterwards we headed to Prospect Park, which was designed and complete by the same people who did Central Park in Manhattan. It is considered their masterpiece, so it really it very impressive.

We walked thru the rolling meadows, along the lake, boathouse, band shell and baseball fields. It was a sunny day and in the high 20's, so it was perfect weather for strolling with ice creams!























After much walking, we ended up at the other side of the park at the Grand Army Plaza and local farmers market........

We then headed down Flatbush Ave, for some window shopping and then home to rest our feet!

Schillers vs Australia

Friday night we headed to Schiller's on the Lower East side. We met up with Juliet, who is the daughter if my dad's best mate in Australia, and her boyfriend Jonathan. Juliet has been living here for the last 2 years and is heading off to Oxford to further her Law studies.

As luck would have it, Alexie #2 bought along her friend Sharmini from Melbourne, who moved here a week ago and is working as a phsyio.

Dinner out in the East Village

After a long hot day of walking around the city, on Tuesday night we headed to the East Village for some dinner and drinks.

David narrowly escaped a Sexy Alexie Sandwich!

Arrival of Alexie #2

Monday marked the arrival of our friend Alex, visiting from London. It has been a long time since we have been in the same hemisphere, let alone the same country - so it is a real treat!

Alex and I met years ago whilst working at ACP along with Jocie, Renee and Peter. Not only do we have the same name, but sisters with the same name, and also graduated with the same degree BA in Communications from the University of Technology in Sydney.

Hence her nickname Sexy Alexie #2............Sexy Alexie #1 being yours truely!

Alex moved to London about 4 years ago and has been travelling the globe ever since. She also has been a great host to mutual friends who have gone to London including our friend Chery and recently Jay and Ercica who moved in June.

What a way to celebrate her arrival that with "Margarita Madness" at our local mexican cantina 'Baby Bo's'. Good times!

Cafe Cortadito

On Saturday night Mick came into the city for a night out and some fun! Erin and the boys have spent the last 3 week in Oregon enjoying the summer and visiting Erin's parents. We headed to a Cuban restaurant in the East Village, Cafe Cortadito that is considered the best Cuban in the city.















It did not disappoint! Excellent sangria, tender steak, succulent prawns and snapper we had a feast!

Afterward we hit a local wine cave, In Vino for a night cap before heading home to bed!

Brunch at Artisanal

Saturday we met up with Milica and Pete. David and Milica worked together back in Australia and spent a week in New York for her birthday, before jetting off to Las Vegas and San Francisco.

We took them to one of our favourite local brunch places, Artisanal. It is a typical French bistro and well known for its "Cheese Cave" and worldwide selection of cheese, wine and beer.

A perfect way to start the weekend!

Dinner at the Plaza

Friday night we decided to treat ourselves to a fancy night out at the Plaza, and the indulgence was well worth it!

Starting off with some champagne, we followed with a fabulous meal in the Oak Room. The Oak Room is a New York landmark, with wood-panelled walls and barrel-vaulted ceilings. It has black and white photo s thorough the dining area of all celebrities in the 1950's that came to dine. The food was exquisite and highlights included the lobster bisque and porcini crusted fillet mignon, washed down with some Italian red.

It was lovely to end the night walking thru the hotel and soaking up all its grandeur!
